Principal's Welcome
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am so incredibly excited to be afforded the honor and privilege of being Greenville’s principal. As a twenty-three year veteran educator, I have dedicated myself to the field of education and to student growth. I bring a broad range of educational experiences to my role as principal of our school. My career started in the New York City Public Schools where I taught fourth through sixth grade and later worked as a literacy coach supporting teachers and students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Before joining Greenville’s faculty, I taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am excited to utilize my experience, my openness to learning and my student-centered approach to continue to support Greenville’s students and staff.
For the past sixteen years I have had the great fortune of being part of the Greenville community. As a reading specialist, assistant principal and now principal, I have always strived to be a learning partner, active listener, and most of all, a strong advocate for all children. Additionally, I am dedicated to the passionate teachers and staff who work tirelessly in support of their students’ academic and social-emotional growth. Our goal is to develop confident students who are motivated to grow as lifelong learners and empathetic citizens. We are committed to providing all of our students with the highest quality education while cultivating a joyous and nurturing environment where our students feel free to express themselves and be curious and creative and feel welcomed, valued, and respected.
One of the most important aspects of my work as Principal is to continue to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and families. You’ll find me in the hallways, classrooms, and on the playground getting to know your child(ren). Curriculum and instruction are also at the forefront of my work. It is my goal to work diligently with teachers to make sure our students receive the highest quality instruction that is student-centered, progressive, appropriately challenging and engaging. I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of our students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members about our instructional approach and philosophy.
Please know that my door is always open to Greenville families. I heartily welcome your conversation, ideas and input. In partnership, let us always keep students as the primary focus of our work. I look forward to continuing to work with Greenville’s children, their teachers and you, celebrating our collective successes for this school year and for years to come.
Sincerely,
Marisa Ferrara
